Required drawing tools

For this tutorial we use a mix of several drawing tools. Here is a list for you:

Pencil: A soft 4B pencil is ideal for the sketch or for the background
Fineliner or black felt-tip pen: These are used for clear, defined lines.
Eraser: A kneadable eraser is ideal as it leaves no residue.

Drawing a forest step by step guide

Create a sketch of the perspective

1. Start with a point in the center of your sheet. This is the vanishing point for your perspective.

Draw a dot in the center

2. From this center point, draw several straight lines that radiate outwards.

Draw alignment lines

3. In the middle of these rays, you can draw a circle for the moon or the sun. This will be the central focal point of your picture.

Add trees and branches

1. Take your fineliner or a thicker black pen and start drawing the trees along the outlined rays.

2. Start in the center and work your way to the sides to maintain perspective.

3. The trees should taper towards the top. Also draw the branches with irregular strokes.

Trees become smaller towards the top

4. Draw the branches of the trees by drawing the stitches from the center outwards.

5. As soon as you have drawn enough trees and they are dry, you can also erase the pencil lines of the sketch.

Draw the moon and sky

1. Use a soft pencil (e.g. 8B) to draw the moon. This area remains light.

Draw the moon

2. Start drawing ever larger circles around the moon with the flat side of your pencil.

Draw sky with circles

3. Draw larger and larger circles around the center. This indicates the sky and the clouds.

4. Draw the circles until you are happy with your sky.
