Painting a Birthday Card with Lettering [Video]

Self-painted greeting cards are a wonderful way to show your appreciation and joy, be it for birthdays, holidays or simply as a little gift in between. In this tutorial, I will show you how to create a simple yet beautiful card yourself.

 

These instructions are easy to understand and are therefore suitable for all levels of experience. Whether you are just starting out with painting or are already a little more advanced, here you will be introduced to a great new idea for expressing your creativity.

Materials required

With a few basic materials and a little creativity, you can create a unique card to suit any occasion. For this exercise, we’ll use a mix of several drawing tools. Here’s a list for you:


– Slightly thicker paper
– Watercolors or watercolors for the circles
– Fineliner for the flowers (black)
– Thick felt-tip pen for the lettering (black)

Birthday card painting instructions

Circles with watercolors

1. Paint the first circle with a color of your choice. Make sure you leave some space for two more circles.

2. Use enough water and paint the edge a little more intensively so that it looks darker.

3. Leave the first circle to dry before painting the next one. You can also use a hair dryer.

4. Now repeat the process with two more circles. Choose the colors so that they match each other.

Paint the edges more intensively again
Allow to dry again

Draw flowers

1. Now use a black fineliner and draw some simple flowers with a long stem.

2. Use different flower motifs and very simple leaves. The motif should appear rather loose.

Draw in lettering

1. Now use a black fineliner or felt-tip pen to draw in your lettering.

2. You can also search the internet for a suitable lettering and trace it here.

3. Now your birthday card is finished and you can give it away.
